A preliminary inquiry was held yesterday by the Superintendent of Mercantile Marino into the cause of the mishap to the motor-ship Port Hobart through .striking a submerged object off Turakirae Head, IS miles from Cape Palliscr, on Saturday. No report of the inquiry is available. The vessel has been given a certificate of seaworthiness, and as she has completed discharge hero she will leave, tomorrow for New Plymouth. She will then proceed to Port Chalmers, where she will go into dry-dock, returning to Now Plymouth to start homeward loading. The report of the diver shows that considerable damage was done to some plates and to the starboard propeller. A general average has been declared over the vessel’s cargo.
