BOWLING

NIGHT PLAY COMMENCES. Last evening the Whangarei Bowling' Club commenced the season's night play -with a pairs toumamerit. There was a good muster-of bowlers, seven rinks being engaged. The conditions were ideal and the green, which- boro evidence of careful preparation. , -beforehand; was in splendid order. Mr A. R. Crane, officiated at the opening ceremony. In a short, but appropriate, speech, he welcomed the bowlers and wished/all a.pleasant evening's sport. The tournament arrangements were in the capable hands of Mr W. Hurle, who has been specially selected to organise and conduct all night tourneys throughout the season. In this capacity, Mr Hurle is indeed - an efficient officer, his method of running such events always meeting with general approval. .

Everything wdnt off without a hitch and three games each of seven heads were contested. After the’ second game, a bounteous supper was dispensed and immediately after the bowlers settled down to the last game, which concluded about 10.30 p.m. fringing to a close a decidedly pleasant occasion. The tourney was annexed by S. Blanshard -and H..D. Harrison (s) with art' aggregate total of 38-points. ’• S. Fulljames and S. Gribblo(S') were-the runners-up with an aggregate score of points.
