HUTT BY-ELECTION
TWO REFORMERS LIKELY,
WELLINGTON; This Day.
At the Reform committee’s selection % meeting to determine the party’s offiinl candidate for the Hutt seat, two •amlidates will be considered —Mr John Jacobsen, a Petono borough councillor, and Mr Harold F. Johnston, a partner in a firm of Wellington solicitors, and son-in-law of Sir Francis Bell.
Apparently Mr H, D, Bennett will he an Independent Reform candidate.
The Labour candidate. Mr Walter Nash, was selected Inst July, and the United Party candidate will be Mr
•Tames Kerr.

POLL IN DECEMBER. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr Harold Fenthcrstonc Johnston has been selected, by ballot, over Mr V. Jacobsen as the Opposition candidate for the Hutt seat. He is the fourth son of the late .Sir Charles Johnston, who was Speaker of the Legislative Council at the time of liis death.
There are now four competitors, Mr Rennet being an Independent. The election is expected to take place aboiit the middle of December.

The Hon. T. M. Wilford tendered his resignation as member for the Hutt today, but will retain the portfolios of Defence and Justice until December 7. The writ for the by-election ■will probably be issued next Monday and the date of the election will be December 18.
