FOUND WITH THROAT GASHED
MAN’S CLOSE CALL
A startling discovery was made by a housemaid at James’ Hotel this morning, when she went to call a boarder, Archibald Arroll (63), for breakfast. She failed to rouse him, but with the assistance of another boarder discovered that the man was suffering from wounds in the throat.
The Senior-Sergeant * was also an inmate of the boardinghouse and a> once took charge of the case.
The injured man, who was conscious when aroused, was rushed post haste to the District Hospital, where he was operated upon. The medical superintendent entertains good hoj)es for his recovery.
The victim of the lamentable occurrence had been employed for some considerable'time as the representative of a picture-framing concern and has been resident in Whangarei for five months. Until recently he has been of a - very cheerful disposition, but financial and other worries had depressed him during the past fortnight.
