MR BRUCE ENTERTAINED
PUBLIC SERVICE EULOGISED,

Mr S. M. Bruce, former Federal Prime Minister, was entertained at lunch by representatives of commercial, industrial, professional and other sections of the community. Many speeches in his honour were made and splendid tributes were paid to him as a statesman of broad national ideals. The hope was freely expressed that he would return to pub-j lie life after he had enjoyed a rest. j Mr Bruce, replying, said he would) be glad to come back to politics if the people desired that he should do so. He added that if his successors succeeded in restoring prosperity to Australia, then the loss of a political party would not much matter.
