COMPLIMENTARY DINNER

MR LUXFORD HONOURED. The complimentary dinner given last, night at the .Settlers’ Hotel by the legal .fraternity to Mr.T. H. Luxford, S.M., on his appointment to bo Chief Justice of Western Samoa, proved to be a great success. The senior member of the Whangarei Bar, Mr W. A. Carruth, presided and proposed the principal toast, “Our Guest,” supported by Mr T. H. .Steadman. Mr Luxford responded in his usual genial and intellectual manner. The fare provided by Mr and M'-s Haines made a very satisfactory banquet. During the evening items were given by Messrs H. G. Carruth and A. Marsden Woods. There were present: Messrs. G. N. Morris, S.M., R. K, Trimmer, H. G. Carruth, L. A. Johnson, A. Lamb, J. S. Day, H, C. Rishworth, H. S. Bannister, A. Marsden Woods, E. Baird, Inspector P. Harvey, S. Bird, T. H. Steadman (Whangarei), G, N. Hayes, H. J. Bramwell, S. C. Gould, M. 0. Astley (Dargavillo), S. W. Dickson and G, P. Findlay (Auckland).
