NAPIER, ’This Day,
Whilst inspecting flood damage yesterday, Francis O’Donnell, aged 2S, a farm labourer, fell into a breach in the river bunk at Meeanee, where the water was about 10 feqt deep. He could not. swim and despite ithe valiant rescue efforts of four companions was drowned. His body was recovered two hours later after dragging. John Muir, a, railway fireman, made great efforts to save deceased, but had to give np as he found himself in difliciißies and only got, out of deep water through the effort* of a man named Stanford, whose assistance had been summoned.
