SKID IN LOOSE SAND

COMMENT BY CORONER

(Per Press Association.—Copyright.)

HAMILTON, This Day

The dangers of sand-surfaced roads was emphasised by Mr Wyveru Wilson, District Coroner, in returning a verdict of accidental death at the iniqncst on .Tames Roberts, aged 23, of Huutly. The evidence showed that Roberts, riding a motor cycle, passed a ear on the Hamilton-Ngaruawahia road on the night of May 8 and skidded in the loose sand at the side, fracturing the base of his skull. The Coroner said it was difficult at night to distinguish the sand from the hard surface. Deceased’s speed apparently was not excessive.
