Mr A. F. Blackburn, District Valuer, is spending his annual vacation in Auckland.
Chief Justice Woodward, of Samoa, who is on furlough, is a passenger aboard the Tofua, winch left Suva yesterday for Auckland.
■Nurse Muriel Andersen, who lias boon in charge of the maternity annexe at the Ma stent on Hospital, has been chosen .as matron of the Franklin Memorial Hospital. This morning Mr L. A, Johnson, Zealandia Street, received "thtf gratifying news that he has completed his i law 'professional examination, having passed in the following subjects:— Procedure, law of trusts, wills and deceased persons’ estates, and company law and bankruptcy. Sir Joseph Ward announces that the Hon. Taverner has been appointed Commissioner of State Forests. In addition to the portfolio of Railways and Customs, he also takes charge of the publicity and advertising departments. No appointment has yet been made in connection with the charge of tourist and health resorts.
A pleasant function of a doublebarrelled nature took place at the Whangarei Public Trust Office yesterday, when Mr 0. Bauman, who is leaving on transfer to Auckland in the New Year, was presented with a handsome silver shaving mirror, and Mr Gordon A. P. Searle was made the recipient of a rose-bowl, in honour of his impending marriage, which wil? take place at Christmas.
