RUGBY FOOTBALL
WHANGAREI PEIMAEY SCHOOLS
EEPEESENTATIVES,
The Whangarei Primary Schools representative Eugby football team, as selected by Messrs. Hotson and McKenzie after the trial game at Kensington Park yesterday afternoon, is as follows: —Full-back, Symes (Glenbervie); three-quarters, McDonald (Whangarei), Megson (Whangarei), and Williams (Portland); five-eighths, Hollows (Whangarei), and Swinburne (Whangarei); half, Mullins (Glenbervie); rover, Wilson (Hikurangi); back row, McEae (Whangarei) and Euddell (Kamo); second row, Baker ; (Hora Hora), McKenzie (Hikurangi) and : Sterling (Whau Valley); hookers, Dickey (Whau Valley) and Ililford (Whangarei). The emergencies are Saunders and Tibbits.
The .selection, based on yesterday's game, is a good one in every instance Of the backs, the Portland representative (Williams), Hollows and Mulling were the outstanding trio. Swinburne, though light, was good on the defence and he used sound judgment, although his passing requires a little more care. Megson has weight, and uses it, but lie must remember that he cannot play half the opposing side himself. Of the forwards, Euddell, McKenzie, Wilson and Dickey were to the fore. Sterling played well during the later stages of the game. At one stage Euddell played centre threequarter and showed pace, but he is in his right place in the pack. Marshall, who hooked on the opposing side, played well. Generally speaking the side selected gives promise, provided, that the team gets some practice together and the tendency to wild passing in the rear division is checked. It was a pleasing feature to note that the forwards kept the ball close at their feet and did not nullify their good work by kicking too hard to the three-quarter line, which' 1 is one of the chief faults throughout £11 grades in the Whangarei district; 1 ;
