C. GRADE EVENT. CORNET CHAMPIONSHIP. AUCKLAND, This Day. At the brass band contests six bands competed in the C. Grade contest, which resulted: —Ponsonby Boys* Band, 105 points, 1; Devonport United, 103 points, 2; Birkenhead Municipal, 99 points, 3; Te Aroha Municipal, 94 points, 4; Te Awamutu Municipal and Takapuna Municipal, each 88 points, 5. The cornet championship resulted:— Hayes (Auckland Artillery), 96 points, 1; Stevenson (Wellington Tramways), 94, 2; Wills (Woolston) and Paxton (Malvern Tramways) each 92, 3. Honours mention was accorded Goodall (Wellington Tramways) 89 and "Vincent (Queen Alexandra's Own, Wanganui) 87j—Press Assn. KEEN SOLO CONTESTS. AUCKLAND, This Day. At the band contest the E Flat Bass solo resulted in B. Smith (Malvern), and G. Wilson (Woolston) beings equal for first, with 96} points, and G. Munro (Auckland) third, with 96. WHANGAEEI'S REPRESENTATIVES. I (Special to "Northern Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The Whangarei Band only practiced yesterday. The men are working hard. They have received exceptional hospitality. The Ponsonby Bowling Club has placed its pavilion at their service for practice purposes. The band is in good form and putting in two rehearsals and drill today.
