DERRICK ROPE BREAKS. BRISBANE, This Day. A thrill was provided on the new Town Hall building, when a workman, Roger Mannton, jumped from the "hopper in mid-air to the ground, a distance of 30 feet. Mannton was being swung over the site by a large crane, when suddenly ho was warned by a ripping noise that all was not well. The hopper in which Mannton was riding immediately began to fall, but the young employee did not wait for the crash. He jumped out over a pile of bricks, and though he landed oil a concrete floor his only injuries wera two small cuts on the head. Afterward# it was found that the steel rope holch ing the derrick had given way, while the gear-wheel was also found to have been smashed to pieces.
