In his evidence before the Commission of Inquiry Air Callan, Hotel Supervisor, stated that the dissatisfaction was due to the Administration being in favour of companies, and against ihe whiles in favour of blacks. In a lesser degree it was caused by the endeavour made to purchase the Territory. Indignation meetings were held frequently, but nn satisfactory reply was ever received. Witness added that Dr. Crilruth denied having any interest in the Daly River mines, and the Minister's statement to the representatives supported this. Asked if it were thought that Dr. Gilruth's policy was to introduce the Latin races and that the presence of the foreign element was largely due to Dr. Gilruth, witness replied: "Yes."— A. and N.Z.
