WAIKIEKIE.
.Mrs F. C. Hilford, who has been under a slight operation in Whangarei hospital is making a good recovery. Mr and Mrs Edge arrived back from Auckland on Saturday. Mr and Mrs T. Bate and family have left Waikiekie for their new home at Mangere. They took away with them the good wishes of everyone. Mr Clegg, of Moewhare, is to be congratulated on his recent purchase of two pedigree animals, an Ayrshire cow and bull. It is always pleasing to hear of settlers going in for pedigree stock, as it is good for the country as well as the owners. An almost unheard of thing for this time of the year was the arrival of motor cars in Waikiekie this week. One car which brought the Whangarei Dairy Co. delegates out, arrived without usdng chains, in the short time of two hours. Two other cars arrived in Waikiekie the following day. CATTLE SALE. 'The monthly cattle sale was held on Wednesday, only a small amount of stock was offered. Beef rose to a little over £3 a cwt., and a few pens were disposed of. Springing heifers were not m great demand arid those offering were poor, and averaged from £5 to £8. One very choice springing heifer was sold for £12 10/. A splendid line of 4-year-old stores was offered by John Stephen, but were passed in at £11 17/6. POST OFFICE APPROACH. The councillor and chairman of the Waikiekie Road Board, have consented to have the approach to che Post Office metalled each body bearing its share of the cost. When finished this will be a marked improvement. Lasfc night the public works train arrived within half a mile of Waiotira station—for the first time since the big slips came down.
