SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY

A successful anniversary was held on Sunday ai'ternoon last. The Rev. Lochore, of Whangarei, conducted the service, choosing for his address the subject of "The Cry of the Children." He also gave an address to the children on "Friendship." Both were very much enjoyed, being most appropriate to the occasion. The singing of the scholars was up to the mark. In some of their special anniversary pieces they attained a surprisingly high standard. Miss Jessie Stevens was at the piano, and led the singing in a very efficient manner. SCHOOL NEWS. Miss Madge Hanlon, who has held the position of assistant, has obtained sick leave. She has been relieved by Miss Lang, recently sf Helena Bay. The school children have been finding amusement during the dinner hour, in a rather extraordinary and strenuous manner. It has taken the form of a paper-chase, in which the whole school save the very smallest girls included, have participated. They seem to derive great pleasure from the pastime. SOCIAL EVENING. Under th c auspices of the Public Hall Committee, a social was given in the hall last Wednesday evening. The aim of the effort was to raise money to pay for the lighting system recently installed. In this they succeeded to the extent of about £5. Euchre was played th e first half of the evening, and after supper dancing was indulged in until about midnight. Music for the dances was supplied by the usual pianists of the district.
