MATAPOURI.

On Tuesday evening last the hall was the scene of a gay and merry crowd, gathered there for the purpose of extending a welcome to two returned soldiers, viz.: Messrs John Morrison and Harold Ddnaldson. The committee who arranged the dance are certainly to be congratulated. There was plenty to eat and drink, and the music supplied by Mrs and Mr Craig, and Mr Pahihi was of the first-class order. The hall was artistically draped in flags and the ever beautiful nikau palm was very much in evidence. PRESENTATIONS. Supper over, Mr Bines, on behalf of the residents, presented both boys with an 18 carat gold medal. Mr ■Morrison's medal was designed to represent a flag signaller, and Mr Donaldson's, that of a mounted trooper. Both soldiers thanked the residents for their kindness. The singing of "For they are jolly good fellow 3," ended this part of the ceremony. Dancing was kept going into the small hours. Mr Morrison intends making a tour of the South Island before settling down to work. Mr Donaldson will visit his old home in Coromandel in company with Mr Vivian Clements, another returned soldier. PERSONAL. 'Mr Harold Clements has had the misfortune to damage his knee and is confined to his room. Mr H. Woolley has just returned from a visit to Hawkes Bay. Mr George Goulsbro is at present in town negotiating for the purchase of Mr John Neil's farm at Marua. Doctor Ward and family of Whangarei are on a visit to Matapouri and are staying with Mr W. H. Woolley.
