GERMANS TAKE FISMETTE.
AMERICAN RETIREMENT
CAUSED
(Received 9.50 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 28
The United States troops gained ground at Bazoches. The Germans captured Fismette, after all-night fighting and many hand-to-hand encounters. The Americans are now counter-attacking around Fismette.— A. and N.Z. WASHINGTON, Aug. 29.
General Pershing reports that the Americans were forced to retire from Bazoches and Fismette, but are advancing with the French north-west of Juvigny.—A. and N.Z.
