ANOTHER MILE EASTWARD
(Received 7.30 p.m.)
PARIS, Aug. 28,
French critics perdict an intensification of the German attack towards Nesle and an early establishment of the line from Peronne to Ham, Guiscard, and Noyon.— "Times."
LONDON, Aug. 28
Reuters correspondent at British headquarters, writing this afternoon states: "The British this morning, by hard fighting in wet, mild weather, advanced eastward of Arras, thus carrying the line a mile further east along the Scarpe than they have ever hitherto penetrated.
"The Canadians began pushing beyond Vis-en-Artons soon after daylight, after which a second Canadian attack was delivered on a front of five miles, fairly evenly outflanking the Arras-Cambrai road.
"The significance of the present fighting is that it is carrying us right. into the main arteries of the Hindenburg line." —Reuter.
