WHANGAREI COUNTY COUNCIL.
MR J. R. McINNES ELECTED
CHAIRMAN.
The annual meeting of the Whangarei County Council was held at midday. Cr J. A. Finlayson proposed, and Cr Tattley seconded, that Cr J. R. Mclnnes should be chairman. Crs Hay and Morey -nominated Cr R. Y. Kernohan. Cr J R. Mclnnes was elected by a majority of one vote, the division being:— For Cr Mclnnes: Crs Finlayson, Tattley, McLennan and Keay. For Cr Kernohan: Crs Morey, Hay and Phillips. The new chairman, who was declared elected amid applause, returned thanks. He said tha the had not looked for the position, but he would endeavour to till the office to the best of his ability. This year th,e ratepayers would expect a great deal from the Council, but, in spite of what had been said from the public platform lately, there was not a great deal of money from Government grants. Altogether £9862 had been received, and of this £1100 was old money. Concluding, the chairman welcomed the new members of the Council. FINANCE COMMITTEE. Crs Morey, Finlayson and Phillips were elected as a finance committee.
