A SENSATIONAL CASE
HARRY THAW. WILL NOT, BE ALLOWED IN CANADA. (By Telegraph-Press Assis.-Copyright) OTTAWA, Aug. 22. The Immigration Department has decided that if Thaw is released as the result of the habeas corpus proceedings which he has instituted, the Department will reject him as an undesirable, and return him across the border. Mr. Sulzer, acting as Governor of New York, has telegraphed to Ottawa asking for the return of Thaw. Mr. Glynn, who was a few days ago officially recognised as Governor vice Mr. Sulzer, has made a similar request. OTTAWA, Aug. 22. Thaw was yesterday charged with unlawfully escaping from the Matteawan Asylum, and was remanded in custody. If this charge fails, he will be prosecuted for bribing the asylum attendants. There are indications of a protracted legal battle. Thaw's family has engaged the most brilliant Quebec lawyers to defend him. His mother broke down at the news of his arrest, and declared that it is untrue, and that it is only a " plant " to hide the tracks of the real Thaw.
