LIBERAL CAUCUS.
LEADERSHIP OFFERED SIR JOSEPH WARD. PARTY PROMISES LOYAL SUPPORT.
The Liberals held a caucus last night at which a resolution was carried unanimously offering the leadership to Sir Joseph Ward, with an assurance that members of the Liberal party will loyally follow and assist him. Mr. J. Colvin (Buller) presided as the oldest member of the party. The Liberal Independents, Messrs. Craigie, Myers, and Isitt, were not present, nor were the Labour members. - Mr. Isitt states that he regards Sir Joseph Ward as the only man who can weld the party together. Apparently the assumption of the leadership by Sir Joseph Ward will not increase the official strength of the Liberals, but Progressives outside their ranks share the opinion that Sir Joseph is the only possible leader. The caucus decision will be conveyeu to Sir Joseph Ward on his arrival on Friday.
