ROYD GARLICK INQUIRY.

VALUE OF SWEDISH EXERCISES

The Royd Garlick Committee met again yesterday evening.

The first witness called was Ser-geant-Major Parkes, who trained the squad of cadets that visited Canada, and has an army certificate in physical training. He stated that no one who knew nothing of drill could teach manual Swedish exercises, which must be the basis of all physical training. He would expect an expert in physical training to give the words of command for the exercises. No one could claim to be an expert in physical training unless he knew the Swedish drill. If he had been free to do so he would have applied for the position of director of physical education. He did not know that the position was being created. Mr. Axel Holtz said he did not approve of the exhibition given in the Town Hall. Many positions taken up were incorrect.
