BOROUGH WORKS AT DARGAVILLE.
MAYOR'S LOAN PROPOSALS
DARGAVILLE, Dec. 9
The report of the committee of the Dargaville Borough Council, set up to consider the Mayor's proposals, was considered by the Council. The committee has deleted the forming and i helling of all footpaths, and also the proposal to spend money to put Selwyn Park in a fit condition for recreation purposes and to test the sources for a water supply for the borough. The proposals therefore resolved themselves into the forming and metalling of certain borough streets.
The Mayor moved an amendment in favor of restoring footpaths. The amendment was lost by five votes to two.
Mr McLean moved that the proposal to form Portland Road be struck out. He was absolutely opposed to this v t -ork. There were no buildings there, and it was ridiculous to ask the ratepayers to tax themselves for an unnecessary road. The proposal was defeated.
Mr Wansbone moved a further amendment that £150 be included to make a fitting recreation ground out of Selwyn. Park. The amendment was defeated by four votes to three.
The proposals as amended were then adopted and referred to Mr Hosking, surveyor, for report and estimate of cost.
