Feilding’s Maternity Hospital
Additional land has been acquired by the Palmerston North Hospital Board to meet the requirements of the maternity hospital which is to be erected in Feilding. The site of the structure is in Duke Street .adjacent to Derby Street and it is expected that work in preparing the ground in readiness for the foundations will shortly be commenced. The Hospital Board has applied to the Local Bodies Loans Board for authority for the borrowing of £45,000 which is the estimated cost of the hospital, nurses’ quarters, etc. The hospital will have accommodation for 16 beds and quarters for perhaps six or eight nurses will be built so that the maternity hospital will be in the nature of a self-contained settlement. Mr. V. E. Smith, Feilding’s representative on the Hospital Board, stated that the work would be put in hand at the earliest opportunity and he anticipated that this would be early next year. The need for the hospital was recognised as being most urgent.
