Palmerston North’s Fine National Savings Effort

The National War Savings Department have just completed a comprehensive return indicating the number of new accounts opened in the various postal districts throughout the Dominion for the year ended March 31, 1945. These figures reveal a very satisfactory position as regards Palmerston North district. Our Chief Post Office recorded an increase of 2892 new accounts for me year, Auckland and Christchurch being the only two offices in the Dominion to exceed these figures. The country offices obtained 1071 new accounts, making a grand total of 3963 for tOAvn and country for the year. Palmerston North city was top of the chief post offices for percentage increases for the year, gaining 32.35 per cent., Avhilc for the districts, they Avere again in the lead with 17.74 per cent. The next highest district figures AA’ere: Auckland, 15.57 per cent.; Wellington, 15.05 per cent.; Gisborne, 13.63 percent.; Oainaru, 12.79 per cent.; and Nelson, 12.69 per cent.
