Performance of Germany’s Newest Planes

Received Tuesday, 11.10 p.m. LONDON, May 30. Performance details of some of Ger many’s newest planes are given by the Times’ aeronautical editor. The Messerschmitt 109 G 6, a single-engined fighter, reaches a top speed of 400 miles an hour at 22,000 feet. The fighterbomber version at the same altitude attains 385 miles an hour. These Messerschmitts carry three 20-millimetre and two 13-millimetre guns. The Germans nave increased the wingspan of the Dornier 217 K 2 which is equipped with two radio-controlled armour-piercing bombs obviously for use against warships. Its total bomb-

load is now 6600 lbs. and the machine carries nine guns. The Hein’-el 177 which is the Luftwaffe’s nearest approach to the R.A.p.’s heavy bomber now carries a bombload of 12.300 lbs. and has a maximum speed of 285 miles an hour at 20,000 feet.
