New Zealanders in Italy To Be Brought Home
TIMARU, Sept. 9. Arrangements have been made foi the earliest possible repatriation •! New Zealand soldiers who are prisoners of war in Italy. This information was given by the Prime Minister (Hon. I*. Fraser) to a large and enthusiastic audience at Timaru to-night. “There are in Italy a good number of New Zealand boys who are prisoners of war,” Mr. Fraser said. “The Govern ment and War Cabinet have decided that these prisoners will be brought back as soon as possible and repatriated here (cheers). We were informed soms days ago that an armistice was pending and the War Cabinet immediately put in hand arrangements to have them repatriated to the Dominion. It may be difficult to contact them all, particularly those in areas where German forces are in occupation, but everything humanly possible will be done to bring our men back to the Dominion whenever shipping is available.”
