Rexdale Dairy Company

Tho annual report -which was presented at the annual meeting of the Rexdale Co-op. Dairy Company, Ltd., held at Mangamaire on Saturday, was as follows: —

During the year matters have proceeded smoothly and the thanks of the t-hareholders are due to members of the staff for their work. To Air. L. R. Wards, factory manager, special appreciation is expressed. it will be noted that the output of cheese had declined when compared with that of last season. Tho reason for this is of course, that all suppliers who were changed over from butter to cheese have now been changed back to butter. There were 73 suppliers while now there are only 32. As a war effort we worked a night shift; fortunately this is not now necessary. For the year 1941-42 the estimated payment for butterfat was Is 5Jd per lb., and the actual payment was Is fid per lb. During the year now reviewed the advance on butterfat (all grades) was Is 5d to which will be added a further 2d a lb., the average payment being thus Is 7d (18.998) per lb. The farm account indicates progress, and, although much still remains to be done, the farm will in due course show' a profit on the investment. As previously stated, the funds for this improvement must be earned by the farm and not by the factory. As far as labour and material permitted, the factory and plant have been maintained and modern plant when available is replacing that which has served for many years. A perusal of the statistics (figures for the year 1941-42 in brackets) shows: Number of suppliers, 32 (73); pounds of milk received, 9,192,711 (20,090,554); pouuds of butterfat for cheesemaking, 393,250 (901, 845); pounds of butterfat separated, 13,901; pouuds of milk separated, 305, 431; pounds of milk sold, 46,423; average butterfat test, 4.46 (4.485); total charges, including repairs and depreciation up to f.o.b. at per lb. butter fat, 3.712 d (3.712 d); pounds of cheese made, 1,002,168 (2,297,234); pounds of milk to make one pound of cheese, 8.821 (8.745); pounds of cheese to one lb. of butterfat, 2.548 (2.547); average grade of cheese, 92.358 (92.173).
