National Party Candidates for General Election
Opponent for Mr. Kyle at Riccarton Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 8. The following first official list of candidates to contest seats at the general election has been issued by the Dominion Headquarters at the National Party: Auckland East: Air. H. T. Merritt, an Auckland businessman. Auckland Suburbs: Mr. T. A. Bishop, a farmer, member of the Auckland Harbour Board and R.S.A. official. Eden: Lieut.-Colonel W. H. Fortune, now serving overseas, and a member of the Auckland City Council and Education Board. Onehunga; Air. John Park, architect, and Mayor of Onehunga. Roskill: Captain R. G. McElroy, barrister, an Auckland City Councillor and now at the Staff College. Napier: Mr. Moms Spengc, accountant and Napier Borough Councillor. Pahiatua: Mr. Keith Holyoake, farmer and former M.P. for Motueka. Egmont: Mr. E. B. Corbett, a farmer, a director of the Oxford Dairy Company and a member of local bodies. Wairarapa: Mr. J. J. Maher, a farmer and chairman of the Wellington Primary Production Council. Hawke’s Bay: Mr. E. N. Pryor, a farmer and former newspaper executive.
Patea: Air. W. A. Sheat, a farmer and former W.E.A. lecturer who baa held numerous public positions. Wellington East: Mr. L. T. Jacobsson, a Wellington businessman and prominent welfare worker. Hamilton: Air. Frank Findlay, a master baker, chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board and deputy Alavor of Hamilton. Riccarton: Mr. J. T. Watts, a Christchurch lawyer. Invercargill: Lieut.-Colonel W. Bell, chairman of the Southland High Schools Board and Home Guard Commander.
