A life of soldiering closed with the death this week of Major George Ernest Simeon, Remuera, at the age ol 79. Dr. James Whit ton, formerly of Oamaru, and latterly living in retirement at Lower Hutt, died there on Saturday at the age of 83. An airman was seriously injured at a North Island Air Force station on Wednesday when he was struck by the propellor of an aircraft which was taxi iug out to the n nr/ay prior to taking oil'. The injured man was Courtney Rowe, whose father is AJr. A. C. Rowe, of Duneuin. As a result of a heart seizure which occurred in Parliament Buildings, Wellington, last week, Mr. Lee Martin, M.P. for Raglan, is a patient in hospital. His condition is serious. Airs. Lee Martin is also confined to her bed in. Hamilton through illness. A Sydney cable states that Miss Alargarct Fraser, a New Zealander, has been appointed by the New South Wales Public Service Board as organis ing secretary of the United Hospitals Auxiliaries. After leaving New Zealand Miss Fraser went to London and since coming to Australia has been prominently engaged in women’s journalism. In November, 1939, she was appointed first woman publicity censor in Australia and has been attached to the Censorship Department since that date.
