Womens Institutes

KIMBOLTON Mrs. J. Gerke presided at the February meeting and thanked all who had assisted with tho catering at the recent ewe fair when over £6 was taken for tho soldiers’ parcel fund. A vote of thanks was’ accorded Mrs. Schmidt for her gift of three beautiful hand-made handkerchiefs which were for competition. These realised the handsome sum of £3 17s for the parcel fund, the winner being R. G. Beard. Miss Liviugstone wrote in appreciation of the gift of flowers received whilst she was in hospital. Potatoes being grown for in-

dividual effort are to be dug and brought to the April meeting. Mosdames Jensen and Jones offered to sort, same for sale. Members were reminded that nominations for the new committee and president must be handed to the secretary by March Ist. A committee meeting will bo held at Mrs. Gerkes’ residence on Monday, March Bth at 2.30 p.m. A full attendance of members is requested. Mrs. McCorkindale, voluntary organiser, will be the speaker for the annual meeting in [March. It was decided to hold a miniature show on this day, March 16th, and members entering in tho various competitions are requested to put their names on a piece of folded paper with each entry as this will assist the flower stewards considerably. Competitions for March will be: —Dahlias: 12 decorative, 6 poms, 6 charm, 3 cactus, 3 hybrid cactus; vegetables: six shallotts and three tomatoes; cooking: a plate of apple shortcake; miniature show entries: bowl of dahlias, low or floating bowl of mixed flowers, collection of michaelmas daisies, one head hydrangea, three head of hydrangeas, twelve cut flowers, collection of vegetables (to be sold afterwards on market stall for parcel fund). The hostesses will be Mesdames R. Knox, London and Miss Livingstone. Competition winners for February were:—Best bloom: Mrs. Richie 1 and 3, Mrs. Youle 2; dahlia: Mrs. Jones 1, Mrs. Youle 2, Mrs. Jensen 3; gladioli: Mrs. G. Richie 1, Mrs. C. Clapham 2 and 3; sponge roll: Mrs. Richie 1, Mrs. G. Richie 2, Mrs. Myers 3; carrots: Mrs. G. Richie 1, Mrs. Jones 2 and 3. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Keith, Jensen and Ireland.
