Fantastic Rents

(Special Australian Correspondent.) Received Friday, 11.20 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 26.

Fantastic rents are being paid for houses and flats at Townsville, Northern Queensland, where local papers publish advertisements by officers offering as high as fifty guineas monthly for well appointed homes. Before tho war, the houses commanding such sums were available at rents up to £8 monthly. At Cairns, further north, the heavy influx of wives and families of servicemen stationed in the area, necessitated the issue of a Government order that all persons not permanently stationed at Cairns, must leave the town.
