Pretty Wedding at All Saints’ Church
BROOKS—LOVELOCK A wedding exciting much friendlv interest, celebrated at All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North, on the afternoon of January 16, 1943, was that of Iris Elizabeth, only daughter of Mr. L. D. Lovelock, of Moerangi Street, Palmerston North, and the late Mrs. Lovelock, and Sergeant Francis Leyland Brooks, only son of Mrs. E. Brooks and the late Mr. Brooks, of Auckland. The ceremony was performed by Rev. G. H. Wilson, Mr. J. Plolmes Runnicles playing the wedding music, and the church had been artistically decorated with pastel tinted hydrangeas by girl friends of the bride. Escorted by her father, the bride was becomingly attired in a suit of cream linen, with which she wore a highnecked blouse of cream georgette over georgette of a deeper shade and beautifully embroidered with beads. Her tulle veil was held in place with a toque of georgette and multi-coloured flowers, And she carried a bouquet of cream roses, gladioli, carnations, gypsophila and maiden hair fern. In attendance on the bride was Miss Judy Hamilton, of Palmerston North, wearing a frock of dynasty rose satinbacked crepe, the short-sleeved bodice being high at the neck and finished with a filigree brooch, and gathered to a yoke, and the skirt was fully flared. With this she wore a wide off-the-face hat of cream chip straw and her bouquet was composed of roses and carnations in shades toning with her frock. Lieutenant D. Good, of Wellington, was the best man. The reception following was held at “Cannobie Lea,” the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Knight, Newbury, who were host and hostess for the bridegroom. Mrs. Knight wore an olive green ensemble with a shoulder spray and brown accessories, while Mrs. Lovelock, stepmother of the bride, assisted, wearing a navy ensemble with shoulder spray and navy accessories. The reception rooms were gay with lovely summer blooms and some sixty guests were hospitably entertained. Mr. W. J. Croucher was toastmaster and the toast to the happy couple was entrusted to Mr. R. Waters. With due ceremony the bride cut the handsome two-tiered cake which had been made and iced by her godmother, Mrs. H. Matthews, of Marton, and the usual felicitations were offered. When Sergeant and Mrs. Brooks left on their honeymoon, the bride travelled in a smart frock of light midnight blue silk crepe trimmed with white, with white hat and navy and white shoes. Her gloves and handbag were also white.
