Business Girls at Happy Social Evening

For the first social of the year, members of the Palmerston North Business Girls’ Club were the guests of Miss J. Young, one of the vice-presidents, at her home in Rangitane Street. Miss Young received her guests wearing a frock of maroon silk crepe, her sister, Miss Janet Young assisting, wearing floral satin. Lovely summer blooms graced the rooms and a happy time was spent with games and competitions, the programme having been arranged by Miss V. Royal, secretary. Competition winners were Mrs. M. H. Oram (the president) and Miss A. Hayes, who received their trophies from Miss Royal. After supper had been enjoyed, Mrs. Oram returned thanks to the Misses Young for their kindly hospitality. The girls had brought many nice gifts for parcels to send shortly to members of the Maori Battalion. Vicepresidents present were Mesdames W. T. Royal and Millington and there was an apology from the patroness, Mrs. A. E. Mansford.

A warm welcome was extended to the new Deaconess, Sister Noelene Finnie, by Mrs. M. Aitchison, president of St. Andrew’s Social Guild yesterday with an assurance that the members would be most sympathetic towards her work and ready to lend the helping: hand.
