Caring for Crippled Children
Mr. W. G. Black presided over a meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu branch of the Crippled Children ! Society yesterday and offered a welcome j to Miss M. Small, district nurse, who was acting for Miss K. Spensley (Palmerston North Hospital almoner). Mr. 11. M. Scott reported progress with regard to I the appeal for co-operation through the rural schools In the Wanganui and Hawke’s Bay education districts that a circular had been drafted to be sent out. Colonel C. G. Powles and the manager, Manawatu Machinery Exchange Co., wrote in appreciative acceptance of life membership offered to them. Donations of £5 5s each from Dr. Hunter Will, Messrs Plodder and Tolley, E. P. Wix, Ltd., and Manawatu Knitting Mills, per the chairman, were gratefully acknowledged, and in accordance with the previous decision the donors were elected to life membership. The resignation of Mr. F W. G. McLeod as canvasser was accepted with regret, a letter in appreciation of his excellent services to be sent. | The town clerk wrote notifying that : October 1 had been allocated for the annual street day. Accounts amounting to £53 9s Id were passed for payment. The welfare officer (Miss’D. Irwin) reported that she had paid 61 visits and had received eight. She had travelled 972 miles. There were six new cases, making 160 on the roll.—The report was received.
