Mrs. D. Miller Farewelled at St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild

Opportunity was taken at yesterday’s meeting of St. Andrew’s Social Guild to farewell Mrs. D. Millar, of Whakarongo, a valued executive member, who is leaving next week to take up her residence in Wellington. Paying tribute to her services, Mrs. Aitchison said Mrs. Millar had given practical help in many ways, particularly in making the calco for grandmothers’ day. And when unable to do this through an accident suffered, her daughter Marjorie had continued the good work. Asking Mrs. Millar's acceptance of a picture, Mrs. Aitchison said it carried the affectionate esteem of her fellow members, with hopes for happiness in her new sphere and many future visits to St. Andrew’s. A dainty posy was presented to Mrs. Malcolm Holmes, whose husband is overseas and who will live with her mother for the duration of the war. Returning thank 3 for the kindly references to herself and her daughter, and for the gift, Mrs. Millar said she would never forget her long and happy association with the church and all its activities and anything she had done had been a pleasure. The speaker for the afternoon was Miss E. E. Stephens, principal of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School, who dealt with modern trends in education to stimulate the sympathetic co-operation of the parents. Further pleasure was given to the company by Mrs. J. Pritchard with vocal solos accompanied by Mrs. R. Donald.
