Colyton
A function was held to honour Able Seaman Eric Krull and Second-Lieut. Desmond Thurston, who were spendingleave with their parents. Professional music was provided for the dancing while a party of gix'ls from Feilding piovided entertainment with a play, two members of which, Misses Pauline Hastie and Peggy MoElroy, also contributed vocal numbers. The presentation was made by Mr. N. ShortalJ, who, on behalf of the Colyton Patriotic Society, called upon the two young men to accept yeather holdalls as gifts from the society. Mrs. Bruce McLeod represented the Ladies’ Patriotic Society in handing the men parcels. Lady helpei's supervised supper arrangements. Extras for the dancing were played by Mrs. T. A. Smith. Keen interest was displayed by children and parents alike when the annual judging of the calf club calves took place. The club has always l-eceived keen support from the Colyton School with the teachers co-opei*ating with the oi-ganisers in encouraging the children to take an interest in their pets. Prior to the judging Mr. E. H. Lange and the judge, Mr. J. O’Donnell, were able to take part in the Ai'mistice Day commemoration eereraony by the pupils. A declaration of loyalty was said by two senior pupils, Freda Allerby and Neville Lind, following which Neville unfurled the flag and the National Anthem was sung by all. As well as a good parade of calves, pet lambs wei'e also included in the judging, and from a good muster Erica Scott pi'oved the winnei*. Both Mr. Lange and Mr. O’Donnell congratulated the children upon the excellence of their entries. A vote of thanks was accorded the judges, and the headmaster, Mr. Daws, and infant mistress, Mrs. Thurston.
