Impressment of Private Car Tyres ?
Per Pres* Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April- 20. His personal opinion that private car tyres might one day have to be impressed for essential business users was expressed by Mr. T. H. Langford, No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority, who was invited to comment on the severity of the tyre control. Mr. Langford emphasised that he possessed no “inside” details about existing tyre stocks. “1 do not suggest that private car petrol Bhould be cancelled,” he said, “but 1 think cars may be very valuable to New Zealand before we are through with this job and that car usage should, therefore, be at a minimum. The availability of petrol alone ia not a justification for the unnecessary use of it.” “It is possible at least,” Mr. Langford said in answer to a question,‘‘ that the time may come when private car tyres will have to be impressed for essential users of similar sorts of tyres, such as business cars used in the delivery of milk and other commodities.”
