Steel Pins to Heal Jaw Fractures

NOTED N.Z. SURGEON’S NEW METHOD Received Monday, 8 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 17. The Daily Telegraph says the Government’s maxillofacial centres are using and developing a remarkable new method of treating jaw fractures enabling the patient to move the part freely and painlessly within 24 hours of the fracture being Tho method involves the use of steßl pins implanted in the jaw on each side of the fracture. The two ends of the fracture are brought into position and held by an ingenious arrangement of stainless steel bars and moveable nuts. The process inflicts no pain and obviates weeks of immobility. The treatment was evolved by Sir Harold Delf Gillies (the famous New Zealand plastic surgeon) in conjunction with an American orthopaedic sturgeon. Leading dentists opine that it may ptove the most notable dental development of the war.
