Miss Enid Wishnowsky, of the staff of the Halcombc Post Office, is spending her holidays with relatives in the South Island. Mrs. Malcolm Holmes, of “Waitohu, ’ ’ Otaki, is at present the guest of her mother, Mrs. David Millar, of “Park Neuk,’’ Whakarongo. Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Ewen yesterday left' on their return journey home to Matawai, Gisborne, after a holiday of three weeks spent with relatives in Feilding and Wellington. The engagement is announced of Squadron-Leader John Ramsey St. John, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. F. St. John, of Wellington, to Patricia Whiting, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Whiting, Bletchley, Buckinghamshire (says a London cable). Mrs. W. Brown was welcomed back after a long absence through illness at yesterday’s meeting of St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild and sympathy was expressed with Mrs. A. McCrea, one of the oldest members, who is in hospital as the result of an accident. Opportunity was taken at yester-* day’s meeting of St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild by Mr. A. Wylie, session representative to the guild, to offer congratulations to Mrs. M. Aitehison (president) on topping the poll for the Palmerston North Hospital Board in the recent elections, the meeting .endorsing these remarks with acclamation. The death occurred in Christchurch this week of Miss Dorothy Chrystall, eldest daughter of Mrs. Chrystall and the late Mr. W. Chrystall. Miss Chrystall will be remembered as one of the finest women golfers that Canterbury has produced. She was a former champion of the Christchurch Ladies’ Club. She served on the committee of the club and at one period was its treasurer for many years. Miss Chrystall was the holder of the New Zealand women’s golf championship title in 1928.

Farewells were in order at yesterday’s meeting of St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild, the president (Mrs. M. Aitchison) referring in regretful terms to the fact that Mesdames T. Simpson and J. D. Anderson, who had entertained with songs, would shortly be removing from the city. Mr. and Mrs. Simpson are leaving for Brown’s Bay, Auckland, in July, and Mr. and Mrs. Anderson are going to Evan’s Bay, Wellington. Both Mesdames Simpson and Anderson have been welcome performers on any platform. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. A. Baigent were also farewclled as Mr. Baigent, of the staff of tlie Palmerston North Boys’ High School, will be taking up a position on tho staff of tho Feilding Agricultural High School in June. The hope was expressed that all would be happy in their new spheres, but would return to Palmerston North at some future date.
