General Notes

Dance Proceeds. The net proceeds of the recent Ivuineroa Sports Club dance, amounting to £5 5s 7d, have been handed to the Kumeroa Patriotic Committee. Maharahara Euchre. At Saturday night’s euchre at Maharahara West, Miss Joyce Reed and Mrs. McLean were first and second respectively in the ladies' section, while Mr. A. D. Hall and Mr. R. Robb were the winners of the men’s department. Dannevirke Rugby. In reply to a question at the annual meeting of the Dannevirke Rugby SubUnion recently, the secretary said ho understood the following teams were to be nominated:—Ruahine, senior and third; Old Boys, senior and junior; Excelsior, junior and third; Athletic, junior; Camp, senior and junior. High School would figure in the lower grades. There was no chance of Weber or Mangatera entering teams. Exception Taken to Letter. At Thursday night’s parade of the Home Guard, the Unit Commander, Mr. J. J. Young, made reference to a letter which had appeared in the press. The suggestion embodied in the letter was, said Mr. Youug, a good one, but he said that any criticism or complaints should be made via the proper channel, namely, the officers of the Guard, and not through the columns of the press. Prior to dismissal, AJr. Young informed the parade that a working executive had now been formed, consisting of the officers of the Guard, and he again requested that any member of the unit with any complaints or “heartburns” should approach the proper authorities.
