At the Feiidiug Civic Lunch Club’s luncheon on Tuesday, Colonel Macaulay, of the Salvation Army, gave a talk, on a “Peculiar People,” alluding to the population of a small settlement in Pennsylvania, which established itself there some 250 years ago after fleeing from religious persecution in Europe. These are the people of Amish, followers of Jacob Amen, a strict Menomite of the 17th century, and despite the fact that they lived in the New World surrounded by all its emenities, they retained the customs and practices of their founder and were a thrifty and essentially practical people, in a changing world they had refused t.o change and yet had prospered with $ steadfast belief in their religion.
