Y.M.C.A. Activities

ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION There was an attendance of 20 at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Y.M.C.A. last evening. Mr. T. R. Hodder, the president, was in the c h n i r. I Speaking to the annual report., Mr. Hodder said the association could congratulate itself on having conic satisfactorily through a difficult year. Early in the war the association had lost tho services of both its Ixys’ work director and general secretary and many senior j members had gone overseas. On top ’ of that, the association had lost Camp Pdhangina, which had been •washed away by flood. Despite these and other obstacles, the association had carried on and it had much to feel satisefid with. The speaker paid a tribute to the work of the ladies’ auxiliary and the leaders’ corps and thanked all who had assisted the association during the.past year. in the report the following statistics regarding membership were set out:— Gymnasium classes: Boys 203, senior men 34, business men 2G, girls 70, ladies 44; total 377. Sports field: Cricket 12, swimming club 12, harriers’ club 20; total, 44. Basketball league: Men, 17 teams, 321 players; ladies, 31 teams, 210 players; total, 337. The report of the treasurer (Mr. L. \I. Plimmer) disclosed a surplus of £3O on the year’s operations, as compared with a surplus of £l4 the previous year. Membership fees for classes, and sustaining membership fees, totalled £l3O, as compared with £514 the previous year, while donations amounted to £IBB, against £75 in 1040, the increase being due to one donation of £IOO. Red Triangle Day brought in £l5O, as against £llO.

The meeting re-elected tho retiring board of directors, Air. Hodder being re-elected president. Tribute was paid by various speakers to the work of Mr. Hodder and Air. G. A. Eliott (chairman of the board of directors), the ladies’ auxiliary,, tho treasurer (Mr. L. I. Plimmer), the hon. auditor (Air. D. G. Glendinning) and all others who had assisted the association’s work.
