Rugby Try-out
FEILDING BEATS UNITED By three points to nil (a penalty goal) the combined Feilding team defeated United a Rugby try-out on Saturday. Play was confined mainly to the forwards and during the first half, which ended without a score, United appeared best in the loose and Feilding superior in the tight. In the second spell Feilding more than held their own in the loose and appeared the fitter team. About five minutes before the end Pollard sent over a penalty. For Feilding Craine, a loose forward, played a good game, while Garlick, Pollard, Pye and Rutherford worked like Trojans. Fowler, from Christ College, was also to the fore. On the United side, Marsden was outstanding. An acquisition to the side is Gunn, skipper of the Athletic (Wellington) team last season. Adamson, Ward, White (Kia Toa last year), Ryder, Hill and Campbell showed form in the vanguard, while Porter (Buffer player) at second five-eighth, and Brosnan at half, played well.
