Moa Harriers Club
Tlie Moa Harrier Club of Feilding opened its season in line but slightly cold weather on Saturday afternoon with a whistle run over a distance of about 31 miles with a run-in over the last 500yds. There was an exciting finish between J. Whittaker and J. Haycock, the lirst named winning by a small margin with it. Evans, close up, third. Prior to the start Mr. G. Coleman read the following message from R. M. Lamberton wno has gone overseas with the forces: ‘‘l would like to extend my best wishes for another successful year ot' activity in your club, i know that there are a number of young men like myself going overseas which makes it difficult for you, but I know the Feilding Club has the spirit to work and keep up the high standard it has always maintained. With your president, Mr. Webb, Mr. Coleman and Mr. Somerset to help in the socials and gymnasium, I think you will do as well if not better than when I was with you. I would also like to congratulate Mr. J. Haycock on being secretary and Mr. G. Whittaker as captain. The club can keep in mind that although I am not with you I am running a great race for victory on the battlefield. To the younger members I would say: Put your heart and soul into the work of the club. Best of luck. Carry ou. I will soon be back with you all.” G. Whittaker, junior champion for the last two years, gives promise of repeating the performance this year. Evam will very shortly be joining the Navy and showed good form on Saturday. Haycock was not as good as expected, but with a little more competition in the seniors should go well. Intending members are invited to bo present at the club room on Saturday next at 2 p.m.
