Pahiatua Lawn Tennis Club Closes Season
PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES The Pahiatua Lawn Tennis Club closed its season during the week-end, the occasion being well attended. The club’s president, Air. Hall Watson, in declaring the season dosed, remarked upon its success despite the present conditions. He referred to the shortage of male players owing to the war, and in this connection mentioned also that the job of carrying on the club would in future fall largely upon the lady members. The trophies, as follows, won during the season were presented by Mrs. Hall Watson : Ladies: Club championship, Aliss G. Bisset, runner-up Airs. S. Taylor; intermediate championship Airs. L. D. Lovelock, runner-up Aliss Goble; junior championship Aliss D. Alilne Allan, runnerup Mrs. Nunnerlev; Watson Cup Aliss Junker, runner-up Miss AI. Boyd. Men: Championship, J. G. Swainsou, runner-up T. T. Touhy; intermediate championship It. Bridge, runner-up W. Harvey; junior championship W. Hall Watson, runner-up H. Gardner; Watson Cup G. AI. Swainson, runner-up R. Bam ford.
The finalists’ cup was won by Airs. S. Taylor and T.-T. Touhy who defeated Miss Junker and J. G. Swainsou. As there were no trophies for the respective runners-up each of the latter received a small gift from Airs. Hall* Watson by way of acknowledgement of their success.
