Pahiatua Mayoralty

MR. 3. K. SIDDELLS TO STAND TOR SECOND TERM Yesterday morning in responso to a deputation of business men who waited upon him, Mr. Stanley Keith Siddelh announced his intention of offering himself as Mayor of Pahiatua for a further term. The deputation comprising Li men was* led by Cr. G. H. Hodd and every speaker complimented Mr. Siddells upon the way ho had performed his office during the past term and Mrs. Siddolls ’ popularity and ability as Mayoress was also referred to.

Outlining the purpose of the deputation, Cr. G. H. Hodd said the business men were unanimous in their request that Mr. Siddells should offer himselt for the Mayoralty of tho town and continue the work ho began three years

Mr. L. T. Herbert said that as a war Mayor Mr. Siddells’ work would he hard to equal. Messrs. W. T. Brown, A. Vaughan and W. H. Murch concurred. Cr. IV. H. Watson emphasised the popularity and ability of Mrs. Siddells, in the lead Bhe had given to the women of tho town in war work. Messrs. J. Milne Allan, E. P. Badger, G. Oxley, J. David and E. G. Sillett also spoke. Cr. T. W. Watts said important borough works were being undertaken and ho would like to see Mr. Siddells continue to direct them. Pahiatua had never had a counci, which had given more loyal service or better work than the present nine, said Mr. Siddells when ho thanked tho deputation for waiting upon him and expressed his pleasure at seeing a number of councillors present. Their loyal cooperation made his work much easier. While they could not predict tho future ho thought he could undertake that it the same council were re-elected there would be no increase in rates in the next twelve months. The question of standing again had exercised his mind greatly, especially as so much war work fell to Mrs. Siddells, but as Mr. David had feinted out, it was a war effort. 1 and he would stand again.
