Manawatu Tourists Beat Nelson

McVICAR’S FINE CENTURY NELSON, Jan. 2. The Manawatu touring team defeated Nelson by 70 runs, the home side just failing to prevent a draw when the last wicket fell one minute before the call of time. Manawatu made a great recovery in the second innings including a fine century by McVicar who batted very soundly for 120 with 17 fours. Nelson lost any chance of winning when the first three wickets fell for 13 runs. No batsman looked comfortable against Downes who, assisted by a crumbling wicket, took six for 55, while Kendall took the last two in the final ten minutes. Manawatu made a poor showing in the first innings, being dismissed for 89, to which McVicar contributed 55, 1 Nelson replying with 190 after losing four for 40.
