Scattered Showers Probable WELLINGTON, Jan. 2. An anti-cyclone still covers most of the Dominion, but a depression is advancing from the west and has begun to cross the southern portion of tho South Island. Winds: Variable in the north; fresh north-westerlies in the central districts and fresh south-westerlies in the south. *Seas (New Zealaud waters): Rather rough to rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits; slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to variable winds in the northern portion; fresh north-westerlies in the central; south-westerlies in the southern portions; seas slight in the north, but rather rough elsewhere. Weather: Continuing fair to fine in much of the country but scattered showers probably from Taranaki and Canterbury southwards.
Temperatures: Cool in the south; mild to warm elsewhere.
