R.S.A. Cards Miss M. Peebles won the R.S.A. card tournament on Wednesday night. In a play-off with Miss Watt, the second and third prizes were secured by C. Vowell and A. Schroder. Tour of Hotels Members of the Licensing Committee toured the Pahiatua Licensing Area on Wednesday, inspecting hotels from Takapau to Pongaroa beforo the annual meeting to be held next month. /\s the day was fine the trip was very enjoyable. Foot Chopped With Axe A painful injury was suffered by Albert MacLeau, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. MacLcan, of Ross Street, this week when ho was chopping wood. The axo became wedged in a knotted piece, which the lad raised, with ihe axe, for another blow. The log droppel 'clear and the axe gashed his foot, causing injury which required a number of stitches.
Coming-of-Age at Kumeroa The coming-of-ago of Phyllis, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Jones, Kumcroa, was celebrated recently by about 80 guests, and tho gathering was a very jolly one. Mr. W. Ramsay acted as M.C., and music was supplied by Mr. R. Gore. Successful partners in novelty dance competitions were Mrs. D. Brown and Mr. O. Miller, Mr. W. J. Jones and Miss M. Jones. Prior to tho usual ceremonies incidental to tho cutting of the birthday cake, Mr. W. J. Miller voiced the congratulations and good wishes of numerous friends to Miss P. Jones, who was the recipient of many gifts, and a' ) given musical honours. Mr. Miller returned thanks on behalf of the family for the large attendance and tokens of goodwill. Croquet Club Afternoon Mrs. D. Gardner and Mrs. F. Houten were the hostesses at the former ’3 home on Thursday, when a gathering on behalf of the Croquet Club was held. Amongst those present were: Mesdames Kenyon, Sehaw, Oliver, Lo Comte, Redmond, Wickes, Chapman, Bullot, Stitt, Batchelor, Jamieson, Mclntyre and Coatsworth. Tho visitors comprised Mrs. Shirley (Palmerston North), Miss Oliver (Otahuhu), Mesdames Cittadini, Rutherford, Levy, Watson and Miss Rutherford (Pahiatua). Prizes were won by Mrs. G. Wickes and Mrs. W. A. Cittadini (bridge), and those for 500 by Mrs. Le Comte and Mrs. Shirley. In another competition the winner was Mr. D. Gardener, senr., the prize being donated by Mrs. Batchelor.
